About Heartworm
Disease
Carried
by mosquitos, dogs are the definitive host,
but is seen in cats too. There is effective
treatment for dogs but no approved cure
for cats. Dogs go into right heart failure;
cats have upper respiratory symptoms, asthma-like
symptoms, or acute death. We recommend starting
puppies and kittens at the time of their
first exam.
