National Pet ID Week

April 20, 2016, 6:54 pm

Mount Tabor Animal Hospital

Did you know that every year more than 10 million dogs and cats are separated from their owners? And more than half of those wind up in the animal shelter system! In recognition of National Pet ID Week (third week in April), we want to raise awareness about this important issue and encourage ALL pet parents to make sure your pets are easily and properly identified. Here are 4 simple tips for pet identification:

1. Regardless of their living situation (indoor or outdoor), all cats and dogs should wear an ID tag, and/or be microchipped. The American Veterinary Association reports that pets with a registered microchip are over 21 times more likely to be reunited with their families if they are lost or separated!

2. If your pet wears a collar with an ID tag, or is microchipped, make a special effort this week to make sure all of the information listed/displayed is current.

3. Get your pet microchipped! We can't emphasize this enough! Mount Tabor Animal Hospital is listed as a Microchip Clinic in Forsyth County, NC with FoundAnimals.org. Please call our office with any questions you may have, or to make an appointment for your pet: 336-765-3974

4. Educate yourself! For more information about microchipping, registration, and additional forms of pet ID, visit FoundAnimals.org.
